Pain Relief

Back Pain

Does your back ever hurt? It has become one of the most common doctor’s office complaints, in recent years. It can be chronic pain that builds over time and repetitive motions, or it can be acute – coming from an accident or injury. Back pain is one of the leading causes of lost time at many work places. Finding what is causing the pain, and how to treat it most effectively is the focus of chiropractic care. Caring for the spine allows for the relief of back pain, as well as many other common ailments.

Spine Basics

The human spine is made up of 24 moveable bones that are connected by means of 144 joints. Between each bone is a disc that acts as a cushion for the bones and nerves. There are ligaments and tendons that connect the bones to each other as well as to the muscles surrounding the spine. Inside the bones is the spinal cord. The spinal cord is connected to the brain and is the primary transmitter of messages for the nervous system. Between each bone is space where the nerves come off of the spinal cord and travel to all parts of the body. Every part of our body is controlled by the nervous system – this is why chiropractors are so closely associated with the spine – it is the easiest access to the nervous system. When there is interference in the spine, it tends to affect more systems than just the spine.
"Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to live." - BJ Palmer

Pain Is Only The Messenger

All symptoms are only messengers. Your body is sending up the red flags telling your brain there is a problem. Without symptoms like pain, it would be possible to destroy our own bodies. Pain relievers are actually only symptom silencers. They are not truly relieving the pain, they are simply blocking the messages from getting through. On top of this, pain relievers have many side effects such as liver failure and ulcers. Chiropractic seeks to alleviate the pain by correcting the problem, instead of just masking the symptoms.

The Cause is Subluxation

A spinal subluxation is when one or more vertebrae are out of alignment, pinching the nerves resulting in irritation and inflammation, and eventually disease. Consequently, the surrounding soft tissue – ligaments, tendons and muscles may be affected, generating back pain. Back pain can be experienced as a constant, dull ache, or a sharp pain flaring when moving the body. Muscle spasms, or knots may also be experienced. The ache or pain may be limited to one location, or it may spread down the arms or legs. Whether the pain is intense, dull, or a burning sensation it generally begins with a subluxation. If not treated, subluxations can result in degenerative spinal damage, and several other health issues.

Chiropractic Alleviates Back Pain Naturally

Before back pain can be banished, the underlying cause must be located and corrected. Your chiropractor has the education and experience needed to interpret your back pain symptoms and to determine which part of your spine is dysfunctional. Damage to the soft tissue could be at fault, or the spine’s hardware – the joints and discs – may have suffered injury. Doctors of chiropractic also have the diagnostic skills required to determine whether you are among the minority who suffer back pain resulting from a disease or condition other than subluxation.

Chronic Fatigue

Individuals with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) experience profound exhaustion that is not alleviated with bed rest and that may be worsened by physical or mental activity. Researchers have yet to determine what causes CFS, and there are no tests available to diagnose CFS.
Chronic Fatigue Symptoms
Each person’s experience with CFS is to some extent different, however common symptoms largely include:
  • Mental and physical exhaustion
  • Tender and/or swollen lymph nodes in the neck or armpit
  • A sore throat that is frequent or recurring
  • Trouble thinking and concentrating
  • Painful joints and muscles
  • Headaches of a new type, pattern, or severity
  • Sickness following any sort of exertion
CFS patients have also reported individualized symptoms which include light sensitivity, muscle weakness and night sweats.
Spinal Subluxations May Cause Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Impulses from the brain are supplied via the nervous system. The impulses from the brain are then distributed to the spinal cord, extending throughout the body within a dense network of nerves. When individuals experience physical and mental fatigue it is generally found that the vertebre have become misaligned and nerves are pinched, blocking their energy impulses. Chiropractors refer to this as spinal subluxations.
Chiropractic Care Alleviates Chronic Fatigue
A patient must show symptoms for a minimum of six months before a medical doctor can confirm a diagnosis of CFS. During this time, the ailment can take hold and become rooted. Once diagnosed, medication may be prescribed to mask symptoms. At this time, there is no medical treatment for the fundamental source of CFS.
No one should have to suffer for six months prior to receiving care for their aliment. Chiropractic Doctors specialize in the spine and nervous system, knowing that neurological dysfunction generally begins in the spine. Realignments of the spine known as adjustments are a non-invasive treatment, not involving medication.  Chiropractors work to correct the underlying cause of CFS, reopening the energy pathways within patients’ nervous system.

A Program For Overcoming CFS

Life quality for CFS patients is weakened, instilling feelings of hopelessness. Your chiropractor may advise lifestyle changes and nutritional enhancement, also putting together a routine of gentle exercise tailored to your specific situation. This will help to gradually increase patients’ energy levels. Recommendations that will allow you to take charge of your health are:
  • Heavy metal detoxification
  • Discontinue medications
  • Stress reduction
  • 7-9 hours of sleep
  • Regular chiropractic care
  • Practice good nutrition
